The Origin of the 4 Cs
Every diamond is a miracle of time and place and chance. They were formed billions of years ago through a perfect combination of intense pressure, temperature, and depth beneath the earth's surface. Like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike.
For a very long time, a globally accepted standard for describing, grading, or judging a diamond did not exist. This all changed in the middle of the twentieth century when GIA, Gemological Institute of America, created the 4 Cs. The 4 Cs is a very common term in the world today and is the universal method for assesssing the quality of any diamond, anywhere in the world.
What do the 4 Cs stand for? You might already know this:
The creation of the 4 Cs was a major innovation in the industry. According to GIA, the creation of the Diamond 4Cs meant two very important things: diamond quality could be communicated in a universal language, and diamond customers could now know exactly what they were about to purchase.
